The Georgia Act of 1869
A group called the Ku Klux klan was evidence that the group had prevented many african americans from
voting in the 1868 presidential election. Congress reacted to this by passing
the Georgia Act. This law returned Georgia to military control for the 3rd time.
Congress had also passed the 15th ammendment around this time which gave all
male citizens the right to vote. The Georgia Act also rewuired tht the state
ratify the 15th ammendment before it could return to the Union.
The 15th ammendment was an amendment to the U.S. constitution, ratified in 1870, that extended the right to vote to all males. See above ^^^^^ for more about the 15th amendment.
The 14th ammendment was an amendment to the U.S. constitution, ratified in 1868, that granted citizenship to the former slaves and forbade the states from denying anyone the "equal protection of the law" This law gave the government freedom to interfere with anyone who didnt obey these laws.
Thr 13th ammendment was an ammendment to the U.S. constitution, ratified in 1865, that made slavery ILLEGAL. Slavery was made completely illegal in the south and everywhere. The slaves were now considered freedmen. They lived as they pleased with a little help from the Freedmen's Bureau.
