Voting for Freedmen
in 1867, African americans voted for the first time in georgia history. In 1868, they helped elect a republican governor. The also helped eclect 29 african americans to the georgia house of representativesand 3 african americans to the state senate. Some of those elected were Tunis G. Campbell, Jr., Henry Mcneal Turner, and Aaron A. Bradley. Sadly all of these men were expelled in september of 1868 on the grounds that althought the constitution had given them the right to vote. IT SPECIFICALLY DIDN'T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO RUN IN OFFICE.
